This was really great and then was not. Made over 3 seasons the first 2 seasons had great writing and some really good performance - Alan Arkin, as Sandy Kominski's (Michael Douglas) agent and long life friend was excellent and Nancy Travis as the woman who Sandy should of, could have, was great too. Then comes season 3. Both Travis and Arkin are missing and so is any coherence or any story line that make sense. Its like director, writers producers actors all lost interest and rushed to fulfil obligations. The storyline became banal and sloppy and completely unconnected to what had come before. With Arkin and Travis there was witty and cutting dialogue especially in season 2. Season 3 was a travesty and really wasn't worth the watch - ironically, is when Douglas gets a gong for a movie he's made. Really his acceptance speech should have been an apology for taking something with real promise and turning into a stinker, . Season 3 is a poor semimetal sitcom toot, session 1 & 2 are pithy, funny and good tv. My advice is watch the first 2 and then find something else to watch.
