The visuals and sound are vastly improved over FM7 to start, especially the sound design. The handling is sooooo much better and responsive to your inputs as well as tire grip is far more realistic where cars start to squirm as you gradually lose grip vs FM7 where it felt like you were driving on ice. I see a lot of people complaining about the new progression/upgrade system but I have no gripe with it.
