Is everyone so starved for new movies to come out due to the COVID-19 pandemic that they will give 4 and 5 star reviews for mediocre movie?
I think this must me the reason, because this was not a good movie.
I just read through the reviews below and there are MANY people giving 5 star ratings while saying that the movie wasn't very good. Seriously folks, if you state that a movie isn't good, why are you giving this film 5 stars?
Maybe you don't understand the rating system.
Here it is: 5 = GOOD. 1 = BAD.
One reviewer even said that this movie is better than the first? Really? Did you even see the first film?
This movie was not nearly as good as it should have been. We were so excited to see this film as the first one was so good. What a disappointment. I almost fell asleep 3/4 of the way through.
The story was boring.
Chris Pine's acting made me feel sorry for him. His "Oh wow!" expressions as he saw modern things looked so forced.
I love Pedro Pascal, but I did not love this character. He was not a good casting choice IMHO and his lines were just, well, let's just say that they could have been a lot better.
The child actor who played his son gave a blank and wooden performance. There was ZERO chemistry between father and son.
Oh yeah, what is up with the President of the USA? He looked crazy and whacked before he even met the antagonist. Things hadn't even got really bad yet. We just didn't understand that.
Kristin Wigg's performance was great at the beginning of the film. I actually felt sorry for her character. However, I feel as if I have seen her play this character in another film. As her character evolved she really didn't seem to fit the role. The CGI on her character left much to be desired. It reminded me of the terrible CGI for the Steppenwolf character in the Justice League film.
As Dianna was losing her powers, she never seemed to be in any real danger. Not at all.
Finally why this story? It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO boring.
So lacking of good special effects. The overall CGI in this movie was just not what movie goers expect nowadays.
This seemed not as much as a blockbuster movie, but more of what they would do with a TV show on a limited budget.
Come on guys! The creative team behind this effort could have done a better job and given us a great story. The certainly should have. Alas, they did not.
Sorry for the negative rant. It's just that we loved the first film so much that we were truly very disappointed at this film.
We obviously cannot recommend this film. What a disappointment.
