Background to review: John and I thought it would be fun to do a day trip to Swansboro for the day. Giovanni’s Brooklyn Bagels just opened up there also🥯🥯🥯. We have a lovely drive down, have a great bagel sammie and enjoy the waterfront.
Then we drive to Fort Macon beach park. John was operating DX on the Ham Radio in the car for a few minutes so we were parked with the car running. We hear a loud thump and smell heat. John gets out to find anti freeze all over the parking lot.
John has Dodge Gold Warranty so we are like no problem and call to get a tow. 2 hours later we are on our way to Mike Toler Dodge in Morehead City. We arrive at 3pm. The service guys are great and look at it right away. A fan blade flew off and punctured our radiator. We need a brand new fan unit and radiator. Parts are not in stock, United Auto Workers have been on strike for 49 days, so no ETA on parts. We are 137 miles from home.
Dealer says leave your Challenger here in our parking lot as long as you like! I am like, NFW is that happening unless John can sleep next to it.
John calls the lovely folks at Dodge Gold Warranty. They will pay $100 for the tow home (likely much more cost wise) or $1000 for a 5 day rental that we have to drive back to Swnsboro with no ETA on parts and no way home. We reveal this to the dealer, who is about to close.
He says you should call a tow truck from Zebulon where you live! And John called Lizard Lick Towing And Recovery and a true Angel named Tony dropped what he was doing and drove 2 hours to come get us. He, they, saved us a ton of stress, worry, more trips and our car is here. John will contact his Dodge dealer in Wendell Monday, and later Dodge Warranty.
Lessons: always pack an E-bag with meds and such. Make contigency plans for pets and such. Thank God always for the Angels he sends🙏❤️
Update: Lizard Lick Towing is coming by to tow the car to Dodge Wendell now. Turns out they can get the parts we need. Ronnie Shirley and his team are wonderful to work with. Special thanks to Tony, the night manager who made sure that John, myself and his car made it home safely.
