Yikes, talk about some Negative Nellies out here. The show is fantastic so far, and thoroughly enjoyable. Most of these 1-star reviews are from people who have already made up their minds.
So please allow me to pick apart their criticisms to you that I've read so far:
1. "Isn't true to Tolkiens lore"
Come on my dudes. Have you even read any of the books? Let alone any movie adaptation of a book? INCLUDING LOTR?? Peter Jackson made plenty of tweaks to the story in order to present LOTR as movies and it worked out beautifully. Literature doesn't translate directly to film.
2. "It's slow"
This one's dumb and isn't even worth giving more attention to. It's a fantasy/drama, you're not going to see the Avengers drop in. Albeit a certain *someone* "drops" in. Teehee.
3. "Terrible writing"
The writing was fantastic. Not every line is gonna be poetry or extremely witty. There has to be casual/useless banter on occasion or the scenes wouldn't feel natural.
4. "Makes stuff up", "The real life JRR Tolkien would hate it", "created by a marxist overlord to keep the general populous satiated", etc, because this review is longer than it needs to be. A) literally based of notes, unfinished tales, and alluded to events. B) uh, I disagree? C) lol possibly true, but so far I've enjoyed it so much that I don't care.
Just give it a watch. We're all just judging what's supposed to be a five season series on its first two episodes here. I thoroughly enjoyed them and think you will too if it's the kind of show you're into.
