The 5 star reviews of this movie are frankly deluded. This is like a 90's TV film from the Hallmark stable. There is no mystery, no suspense and no drama. The dialogue and plot are just laughable, the absence of any detail or evidence in the case is nonsensical. Hoult and Deutche's acting is awful, wooden and vacuous. Really, don't waste your time.

Very theatrical in production, with the majority of the film set in one room. Not unexpected as it is based on a play but the scenes outside the room are a bit disjointed and the styles clash somewhat. Some excellent acting although John David Washington came in loud and just got louder all the way through which started to get annoying - a little more light and shade from him would have been better to give the character more emotional depth. It's not at all what I expected from the trailer but don't entirely regret sticking with it. Would have preferred a straight drama tbh but it is meant to be allegorical.

Laughably bad. Not a single redeeming feature. Would score at zero if I could.

The film is just stupid in a way that is neither funny nor entertaining. It starts at full pelt which becomes annoying and then, if you survive past half way, it slows down to an almost snail pace. The script just makes no sense for a lot of it. A missed opportunity.

A truly remarkable film. Joaquin is outstanding again although Gaga didn't bring what was needed imho, even with the singing. No it's not a typical Hollywood film and some don't like that as it wasn't what they were expecting. The emotional depth though was remarkable and it is a film that has a great deal to say.

A beautiful film, incredibly mindful. Not a traditional creature animation and all the better for that.

Well made and directed, acting largely good, pacing slightly off as starts to drag a little before the story is revealed. Packs a punch with it's message for sure.

Can't rate at less than 1 sadly. Cringeworthy from the get go through to the end. What an utterly abhorrent film and complete waste of talent.

If a film has negligible dialogue and moves at a glacial pace for the majority of the time, then that serves to amplify every detail. If there is very little substance to that detail and a large part of what is there makes no sense then you are left with a vacuum. The reason everyone was looking forward to this film was to learn about what happened when the aliens landed and to see the learning curve that took us to A Quiet Place. There is no learning curve here - for example, they are using torches but at what point and in what way did they 'determine' that the aliens are blind? It is a basic premise that you want to see a fight for survival, that is where the drama comes from. Not a simplistic storyline of a very terminally ill person looking for a pizza. Sadly a waste of money, mine and theirs, despite the excellent production values. Very disappointed.
