Saw "The Boogeyman" last night. Our first tip-off of what to expect should've been the fact that we were one of two couples in the theater for a 10:45PM Sat night movie.
Here's my review:
If ever there was a movie to convince me I need to write a screenplay, it was The Boogeyman!! I'm positive I could write an equally lame, not scary-in-the-least horror movie!!
First-off, the majority of the movie relied heavily on cliches such as the "you see it coming from a mile away" jump scares and mean-girl friends at high school.
Second, the story-line is nearly incomprehensible based loosely on the Stephen King story. Mr. King, I'm sure, is not pleased with this big-screen clunker. Seriously, it's almost impossible to figure where the story is going and why--I thought it should go straight to the garbage can, personally.
Third, the way it was shot, you'd think the producers were late on their electric bill and the utility disconnected them!! It was so dark, you could barely see what was going-on at any given moment.
The Boogeyman creature was a very low-budget, spider-like thing that looked as if an out-of-work set designer just threw it together for $50. I think little kids would laugh if this "Boogeyman" jumped out from under their bed.
The actors were ok, I guess, all unknowns, likely just thrilled to be in what I can only guess was their cinematic debut, such as it was.
The scariest part of this movie was our $35 bucks or so leaving the wallet. I sincerely doubt "Boogeyman 2" is around the bend as this one will hit the streaming platforms like a vapor trail.
And, I'm not even sure I'd see this one on Netflix...it's 2 hrs you'll never get back and ya know, life is short.
Save your $$$ for a real horror movie.
