Its a fun action adventure game with a heavy metroid themed skin. Linear, but satisfying combat. Powerups feel less like unique or powerful tools and more like another key for your keyring.
Graphics are great, sound effects top notch, music is fitting but forgettable.
As soon as immersion begins to set in, you are pulled out of it via cut scene. The emmi chase zones feel gimmicky and un metroid-like. Being insta-killed doesnt make a game difficult, just tedious, and its a hallmark of lazy game design.
Better than Other M, but thats not saying much.
Its not a bad game just a sub par metroidvania. Games like hollow knight, sundered, and axiom verge do better at representing the genre.
Its worth a few playthroughs. Its nintendo, so it wont go on sale for at least 10 years so might as well pick it up if youre in the mood for a solid action game. Just dont expect to feel pulled in to an immersive, vast, explorable world that rewards you with interesting uses of your upgrades.
