One of the best dramas I’ve ever watched. Every episode is put together so nicely. This drama unfolds in layers with each episode. JCW and SHS are terrific as usual. A masterclass in acting, cinematography and story telling. I love how realistic and natural this show is. Nothing feels forced and comic timing is so on point. Every character and every relationship is carved so well and all the cast members do justice to their roles. It is truly a healing/comfort drama. The reason I love it so much is also because of the friendship between the leads and other characters. Usually, meeting an ex after 8 years would be super awkward, but as you watch you realize that they are friends first and will always be, so caring for each other comes naturally and selflessly to them. One moment they are sad and act awkward, but the next moment they are bickering like long time besties, such is their dynamic. And this helps the show to maintain that fun & comfortable vibe going on, and avoids it from slipping into the melodramatic genre. If you are expecting big revenge plot, multiple twists, or a dramatic storyline, this isn’t for you. This rather focuses on healing and rebuilding, not just the career, but also the relationships that are often ignored. People often complain about how FL didn’t take a revenge on the mentee who wronged her and had no ounce of guilt, but this drama rather focuses on making her realize her mistake first and repent for it. In the first episode FL tells her mentee that, “it’s an opportunity if you are ready, else it’s a risk”. It is foreshadowing to show that her mentee’s own incompetency will become the reason for her downfall as we can already predict from episode 11. Take your time and enjoy this simple yet beautiful masterpiece with an open mind. Believe me it will take you through an emotional ride while teaching so many invaluable life lessons. Lessons we often don’t pay attention to until it’s too late. The characters are nowhere perfect, each have their own flaws, but that’s what makes them so real and natural despite the over exaggerated and childish comic scenes, which are also really fun to watch. I know I am going to rewatch it over and over again.
P.S. The seaweed fight and namdalri vs samdalri fights are already my favorite comic scenes of k-drama history, lol.
