The musical numbers were poorly placed and poorly performed. Idina Menzel was and Billy Porter were fantastic and really saved the whole movie. The opening sequence made me want to turn it off. It was just bad and not enjoyable. James Cordon was…James Cordon. I’ve never been a fan of him and this DEFINITELY did not help my opinion of him as a singer/actor. The whole movie seemed like a forced social commentary when this really was not the medium to say it. Create an original story and plot line, not alter an established one that really didn’t need a socially modern lens. The pop songs were beyond atrociously placed. When 7 nation army came on? What was that? The writing too was odd. Cinderella’s motives seemed to shift from day to day. First she wanted to be the first woman to run a shop. The next day she wanted a man to make her husband. The third she completely ignored the love interest and decided to make dresses for queens and travel. This was an unnecessary “girl good man bad” movie that didn’t need to or should have been made. If I could give less than 1 star I would.
