Watched it for the umphteen time on Talking Pictures and to me it’s still as fresh as a daisy and my favourite British film. Superb performances from all the cast from Sir John Mills to Barry Foster plus wonderful interaction from them all. The comic pathos in the vein of Steptoe and Son and early Coronation Street is magnificent. For a simple story that hinged on a newly wed couples inability to consummate , it was much much more that. Topped by the wistful music of Paul McCartney and George Martin it is quite simply the greatest British film of all time.
