Don’t believe the critics. I think anyone who is a fan of the series should be able to appreciate what the film ATTEMPTS to do. The bones of the story are all there. Using the classic pig masks as symbolism for cop hatred, could not have been better. The actual plot and many of the scenes are not well done, and go from confusing to nonsensical. However, the saving grace was that the film successfully delivered on was the theme of corruption. “Jigsaw” is supposed to met out crimes to those deemed responsible for actions that are considered inexcusable. This takes the form of police corruption, which following the BLM movement was a risky move. The film delivers precisely because it refutes the idea of blaming all cops, and specifically the idea of “the ends justifying the means”. The villain is the character who thinks that justice is answering injustice with more injustice. This explains why there were so little traps and contraptions, which the Saw franchise is known for. I do not believe it is indicative of the franchise or indicative of a good film in general, however it was moderately successful in the leaps that it took. The film is by no means deeply profound and the execution of the script was undoubtedly flawed, but I was still throughly invested in the film and at least it attempts to say anything, which is more than can be said for the rest of the franchise and modern films in general.
