Anshuman Kumar

[SPOILERS] This movie continues after X3 which begins with Wolverine living as a vagrant haunted by the death of Jean Grey. He has no friends anymore and I have to commend James Mangold for doing so. It gives weight to the last movie in the continuity and puts Wolverine in a worse place than he ever had been. He meets a mysterious lady who tells him that he once saved the life of a Japanese billionaire who is now dying and that he must travel to Japan to meet him. He agrees and goes there. What follows is that the man wishes to take the healing power of Wolverine and make himself immortal and let Wolverine die. This in my opinion was another brilliant choice that takes Logan to an even darker place. However, he refuses and later while sleeping, his powers are temporarily removed from him. What follows is that Wolverine is put into situations that test him like never before as he must deal with his injuries while trying to protect the granddaughter of the billionaire from the Yakuza. Really personal story. Brutal action. Great acting from Hugh Jackman. Thought provoking. But also becomes a non sensical comic book movie by the end cause YOLO (they could have done something else really)

Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart were born to play the roles of Professor X and Magneto. Hugh Jackman, though not comic accurate made the role his own. With an obvious relation to the issue of skin color in the real world, X Men forces you to think for a little bit whether you would accept such people in our world or not. The action is pretty good and CG is good for 2000's standards and still holds whenever you see it. Of course, it clashes with the whole continuity but who cares. Plus it is the fault of the later movies to not do follow the continuity set by this one.

It doesn't bring much to the table in terms of plot or character but is doesn't stray further from the standard action movie plot to be bad but what it does have it excellent action and a being filmed from lead character's point of view makes it very fun. Props to the filmmakers for doing something so arduous. Also, Shartlo Copley is in this and he is so over the top that it is a genuine delight having him around. All in all 6.5/10. I wished they made it in 3D.
