I wanted to love this film, but can't really recommend it. The animation is beautiful, but in addition to the representational problems some of the other users have recommended, the plot relies on some tired tropes (if girls are brave and competent, they can aspire to be the undervalued sidekicks of boys who are reckless but lucky!), and leans on anti-Semitic and homophobic allusions to signal that the Incas are villains. It also seemed like the Spaniards' speech was generated via google translate, like using the noun "fuego" ("fire") for the infinitive verb "dispara" ("shoot"). (Unless that was to make a point about the unfamiliarity of the invaders' language? But if so, there are better ways to communicate that.)
