I have always been picky when it came to movies, and The Woman King definitely takes the cake for me. Definitely one of the best films I’ve ever watched. The film encapsulated thrill, anger, sadness, excitement, and so many more emotions that added to the film’s ability to capture the audience’s attention. The amazing visuals of Dahomey, the incredible fighting scenes between the Dahomey Amazons and their enemies (both the Oyo Empire and the incoming European Traders), the touching scenes between loved ones, the strong, developed relationship between Nawi and Nanisca, and the loving male love interest - Malik - that acts on his love with honour by letting Nawi fulfill her own destiny. Both Viola Davis and Thuso Mbedu execute exquisite performances with top-tier acting. All of those components added up and created cinematic history, forming a jaw-dropping, almost magical historical action-drama based on the majestic Dahomey Amazons. 10/10, would recommend to anyone!
