There were plenty of reviews that already covered the lack of respect for LOTR lore, so I won't rehash it. Also the pc element, ditto. Having said that. ..
What do you think Peter Jackson is thinking about the show. Is anyone a tolkien fan on the priductuon crew?
I think Amazon's take was actually nothing to do with LOTR or Tolkien at all. It had everything to do with $$$$$. I.E. GOT!!!!! LOTR was never about money but making a cinematic version of the books that was palatable. If we are TRULY doing a backstory then the rights to the tons of episodes give you plenty of time to develop arcs. Within the first episode we've got Galadriel arc, Elrond arc, some wizard arc, Harfoot arc, Elf/ Southlander romance arc, Halbrand (prince in hiding) arc. Dwarves happy life until total destruction arc, And Morgoth arc. Am I missing any?
Since this is not a movie there is plenty of time for character development. I wouldnt mind seeing the wizard come down in episode 8 or 9.
I feel this was rushed less for September 2nd and JRR Tolkien and more to coincide with HBOs House of dragon. The difference is that GOT has an established pedigree. Amazon does not understand that there is a fervent fanbase for both. Make it well, you can still fix it and people who watch HOD will absolutely watch ROP. To me, right now, it seems all the money was spent on the rights and CGI and not on scripts and directors.
I eill continue to watch, hoping. Actually reminds me, just thought of it, Planet Dune. Yeegads!!!!!!!! What drivel.
My 2 cents
