I wanted to like it, but I just couldnt force myself to even finish it after a few days of playing. Disappointing is one word which sums up this mess and I wouldnt be surpised if this eventually lead to the demise of Ubisoft in the near future as it really is the example of Ubisofts rapid decline in developing video games in recent years. Shadows had the potential to be the very best Assassin's Creed of the series, but it just falls short on every aspect, partly due to their attempt to appease a tiny demographic of potential customers that would not have likely had interest in buying the game in the first place.
It was bad enough that Ubisoft decided to have a African protagonist in a game set in Japan (who historically was only a ceremonial weapon bearer rather than an actual warrior samurai) and that he could have an affair with Nobunaga's sister Lady Oichi, whom Ubisoft decided she has a crush on Yasuke any the players could romance her despite historically, Oichi is known for having a loving relationship with her husband. These historical inaccuracies and plot holes I was willing to just ignore had the gameplay experience lived up to its predecessors Black Flag, Origins or Odyssey etc.
But no, the game was way too repetitive, characters were bland and low AI enemies in combat made this gaming experience so poor. I have enjoyed every previous AC game since its beginning, but this is the only one I did not enjoy, let alone make it to at least half way through the game until I got bored, and that says a lot. Its only redeeming quality is the beauty of the landscape in the game, but compared to Ghost of Tsushima released FIVE YEARS AGO, its a much more inferior game in every single aspect.
