Very, very disappointing overall. No evidence of what made the man a formidable leader, an astute politician and an innovative administrator whose legacy is still present in so many institutions in France. His political career is hard to follow, the main character mumbles a lot and there is far too much emphasis placed on his love affair with Josephine. There must be more to the man who was loved and hated by so many. The only redeeming features of the film for me were the battle scenes which were truly magnificent and gave a fair idea of what it must have been like to be a soldier.

Very disappointing. Gratuitous violence. Great acting though.
