Personally, I feel the movie was captivating. I was glued to my TV’s screen all through the watch and was eager to know “what next?”. However, the movie like many have said, had a very disappointing ending.
I honestly get the fact that the movie is not just for entertainment purpose, and there are deep messages being passed across to the audience but hello! you can give us what we want while portraying your message 💁
The plot was inconsistent and the twist was highly unnecessary. It was a terrible idea choosing to make this a prequel, it should’ve just been a sequel where the new rules got birthed after Goreng’s hassles. Tell me how the “Anointed One” isn’t Goreng whereas, he was dubbed the Messiah in the first film? If truly this is a prequel, it is practically impossible for the first rules set by Dagin Babi to have disappeared during Goreng’s term (it wasn’t even mentioned once).
The fact they also had to recast some characters, when obviously they’d gotten older didn’t even help matters (Trimagasi, Baharat, Imoguiri).
They had 5 years to come up with something solid, this was enough time to do proper scrutiny but alas, it felt rushed. Hopefully the script writers, producers and Netflix inclusive reflect on the criticism of this film and make a better 3rd installment. Peace ✌️
