At the very least it's worth watching and entertaining. I mean it's way better than that cheap nonsense Boba Fett. It's an interesting and dark portrayal of the Jedi. It has lovely production and some fine acting. It has barely any political overtones. It may slightly modify so called lore but that's basically going to be true of any show- imagine a show that adds and changes absolutely nothing. The people giving it highly negative reviews fall into two categories: 1) dogmatists obsessed with their fanboy conceptions of "original Canon" 2) people upset the cast is diverse. Sadly these two categories overlap significantly. At the least it's a solid B and it finishes so strong I think it rises above that. I prefer it to the Mandalorian.

Astonishingly awful. As other reviews note, the story revolves around a universe spanning civilization that somehow depends for its very sustenance on stealing (I kid you not) a few bags of flour from 20 people living in medieval conditions. But the story somehow isn't as bad as the acting and direction. You actually have to wonder what went so wrong. How do professionals spending huge amounts of money make something so uniformly terrible?

Aggressively unoriginal, mostly uninteresting. This show is presumably for sci fi nerds, like myself, which makes the complete lack of ambition sort of strange; they must know we have seen all this before, in far superior form. Mysterious people waking up from cryo too early, the ship is damaged, water and oxygen running out. The shows supposed to be dark, but it's full of giddy, pretty actors playing roles lifted directly from the hallowed cannon of Battlestar Galactica, Expanse, Startrek etc. It's a mess and won't last long.

I'll provide a rare negative review. I love Attenborough and have watched hundreds of his programs spanning from the 50s till the most recent. What I love about his best work is that it meticulously and clearly explains the science, rather than relying simply on the narration of nifty footage. Not only does this program explain none of the science, it does so in a way that makes the material displayed seem like fanciful conjecture. In fact (and much of this I know from other programs of his lol) there is solid fossil evidence and scientific theory behind much of what is shown here, compiled over 100+ years of often grueling work. We get none of that. Instead, we get things like "off Zeelandia a mososaur gets its teeth cleaned at a reef". Just utterly devoid of the scientific context that both produced that possibility and makes it interesting. I'd reccomend his "magic in the rocks" series if you actually want to learn something. This is escapism.
