I actually didn't know much about the hate train for this game until recently but I figure I would state my disappointment in case there are others looking at reviews before purchasing.
I enjoy the hell out of a did good collect-a-thon and can remember spending a lot of time on the original Animal Crossing for GameCube in my youth. The problem is that some of the design decisions Nintendo made on this game didn't fit the nostalgia-driven group of adults interested in coming back to the franchise.
Sure, there's an absolute ton of new additions and fun little events you can do, but only if you're the character that started the island. In my case, my girlfriend created her character first and now she is the sole admin of the only island you can have per game, per Switch console. I wouldn't actually mind this too bad, but I can't even contribute to some of the projects we need to progress in the game.
In conclusion: if you plan on playing this game with someone, you would have to buy two Switches and two copies of the game to get anything close to the full experience. Is it crazy to think that Nintendo could have added an option to switch island admins? Or at least add the ability to help build the new building projects? What a waste.
