i'm not entirely sure why this movie is so popular, honestly. it's excruciatingly cliche and all of the characters were incredibly overused and predictable tropes. despite watching over half of the movie, i didn't like any of the main characters or even any of the side characters. there was also a creepy and distressing scene that, of course, the main protagonist never received any consequences for.
i couldn't even finish the movie with how bland the whole thing was; even if the story/characters improved later in the film, you shouldn't have to wait halfway through a movie for it to be good.
not only that, but by looking at the run time, it was far too long; which is actually sort of impressive considering how fast and choppy the pacing of the relationship development was.
the animation was fine, but nothing special.
if you want a story similar to this concept but better, watch your lie in april or a silent voice.
