As a technical and artistic demonstration exploring the very limits of what is possible, this film is undoubtedly a masterpiece and it will surely take multiple oscars for editing and cinematography and a host of other technical and artistic categories.
I do however want to shine a light on the absurdity of the entire central premise of the movie
In a reality where every human decision by any human being - no matter how seemingly insignificant - causes the entire universe to split into a parallel reality - how can the conclusion possibly be that 'Nothing Matters'?
If I decide to have my eggs boiled instead of scrambled and the universe LITERALLY CLONES ITSELF - how can your take away from that be that 'Nothing matters'??? EVERYTHING MATTERS!!!
This conclusion is not just lazy and disingenuous, it is recklessly irresponsible arrogance of the highest order
I see this 'oh so clever' plot device again and again in Dr Who for example - where the star confidently declares to a young and impressionable audience "I've seen everything, and I can tell you that there is not God, there is no hand guiding all our actions" when the reality is that they themselves are but a figment of the screenwriter's imagination.
In the words of Adam's Zaphod Beeblebrox from whom this film borrows much:
"Okay. So, ten out of ten for style, but minus several million for good thinking, huh?"
