The movie reminded me of Latin-America soap opera -- the emotion lever always pushed to full blast forward. For example, you don't hear conversations but lofty philosphical pronouncements, one after another, tedious, repetitious to the point of wanting to yell for the screenwriter to take a class in writing dialogue. People simply don't talk that way. The acting, like the dialogue, kept hitting the same tedious note -- full emotion forward, all the time.
I remember in Freshman Year, the English teacher once gave me a B- "for effort," which is all this effort deserves.
