This film makes NO SENSE, what-so-ever on so many levels.
The mission itself is ludicrous. One that could have been performed by an un-manned probe.
The Soviet-Era environment, tech, and the people are dreary and very depressing. And no-one is lost on the shameless product placement advertising commentary.
What ever happened to the "wonderment of discovery?"
The CGI giant spider/therapist is just plain creepy!
Ancient creature of a figment of Sandler's astronauts' decent into loneliness/depression, or what?
Would the soccer ball, "Wilson" from Tom Hanks' "Castaway" be a better choice?
You have to give Adam Sandler and "A" for effort in trying to expand his acting chops (and distance himself from his decades-long persona of juvenile comedy). But he is woefully miscast in this film.
I tried to give this Netflix movie a chance, but all I could muster was an hour of my time...until I had to turn it off.
And my final riff comment:
I guess this high-concept film look good on paper, but like most content coming out of Netflix these days, no-one is getting their money's worth.
