Anime Review: “I Got Married to the Girl I Hate Most in Class” — Weak Writing, Problematic Themes
This anime tries to pass itself off as a romantic comedy, but fails on nearly every level—from writing, to character development, to its disturbing underlying themes.
Let’s be honest. The story feels like it was built on a gimmick: two high school rivals forced into marriage. That could’ve opened the door to complex character growth, humor, or social commentary. But instead, what we get is a shallow, awkward series that doesn’t take its own setup seriously.
The biggest problem? The way it handles young characters. Most of the girls in this anime are overly sexualized, despite being minors. Their personalities are underdeveloped, used more for fanservice than for storytelling. The show tries to be provocative, but instead crosses the line into irresponsibility. It gives off the feeling that the author is writing for shock or attention—not for substance.
Even the supporting cast adds little to the story. They’re written with lazy clichés—loud gyaru, cold genius, the mysterious advisor—without any real emotional depth. It’s not just boring; it’s a waste of potential.
Is this worth recommending? No.
Not just because it’s poorly written, but because the message it sends is questionable. It blurs the lines between what's appropriate and what's exploitative, especially when it comes to how it portrays young female characters.
If you care about meaningful stories, if you value respectful portrayal of youth, or if you're just looking for a good rom-com—this is one to skip.
There are better shows out there that don’t rely on cheap tropes or controversial gimmicks to tell a story. This one just isn’t worth your time.
