I am honored to have had Tom Remington, Rupert Best and Shaun Ferris as my mentors on the Agro-enterprise Learning Alliance. I and my colleagues provided the dedicated support and facilitation to test the Guide in a pilot project and the lessons we analyzed and documented were incorporated in the "Facilitators' Guide" making the document more friendly to help facilitators learn about the methods and tools in a "step by step" manner. In my view, mastering the "Facilitators Guide" is equivalent to acquiring a "University Degree" in Agro-enterprise and we were able to train expert practitioners. Obviously, several factors influence formation of successful and sustainable Agro-enterprises, within a context of the Sub-Saharan Africa. Robust backing of a financial institution and local Government, reasonable duration of the project (between five to ten years) and a dedicated local agro-enterprise expert to provide technical guidance are non-negotiable for success.
