There’s a lot to appreciate about this film—the cinematography is beautiful as is the main character (the actress is excellent). It is partly because of this that the story is such a letdown. One feels invested in Aisha—she’s a sweet, earnest young woman trying her best to make it so she can bring her beloved son to the U.S. The end of the story is such a disappointment, in terms of how the tragedy is explained to Aisha (who on earth would fail to tell someone something so important but leave a message saying “you never ask about me”?) and the incredibly rushed “happy ending. “ It felt like the writer developed this amazing character and potentially interesting story and then wrapped it up in a few minutes, literally cycling from extreme tragedy to bliss in 3 minutes. Unrealistic and emotionally unsatisfying.
