The most "dangerous" thing about this book is that it is filled with themes fully embraced and preached by the progressive "Christianity" movement.
I don't doubt that the author is a believer but, two chapters into the book, it is clear that his faith and worldview is filtered through the lense of modern day DEI tropes.
The author briefly mentions that abortion is wrong but focuses on misleading studies that he uses to excuse women who kill their babies. The book states that we should be focused on showing compassion to, and loving pregnant/single mothers (which is true) but never mentions repentance. It says that churches and Christians are too focused on the sin of abortion instead of helping these women. However, he neglects to mention there are 3x as many pregnancy resource centers as abortion clinics or that the pro-life cause is almost exclusively comprised of the church and faith-based ministries. The author rebukes Christians for being single issue voters and ignoring the character flaws of certain political candidates (he's taking about Trump), reasoning that pro-life officials don't really impact abortion numbers (once again using slanted reports, especially ignoring the data since r v w was overturned).
The author briefly states he believes in the biblical definition of marriage but quickly shifts to saying that the same Christians that hold up signs at pride parades are leaving and committing adultery on their way home..wow...
Finally, he speaks about racial reconciliation in the church. He states that "white churches" need to start hiring minorities in order to attract minorities to the congregation; forcing racial diversity for the sake of racial diversity. Instead of focusing on the "human race" and the fact that we're all image bearers of God, he decides to pick at the scabs covering the sins of the past; these sins were nailed to the cross, too, btw...
All of these things came up before the end of the second chapter so I can only imagine what the rest of the book is like.
I was attracted to the book because of the title but didn't get what I was expecting. Jesus is extremely dangerous, both literally and figuratively. The Bible says that the demons tremble at his name. He came in humility the first time but is coming back with a sword. The best part is that that he loves us and you can be on the winning side when he returns if you just repent and put your faith in him!
Once again, I believe the author is a believer and some of the things he says are correct. The problem is that these things are just a veil for a non-biblical/progressive world view.
I'm surprised Andy Stanley didn't endorse this book but the consolation prize was Lecrae.
