relatable and realistic characters with good motives and interesting stories, and an interesting premise. but everything else...yikes. the pedophilia and grooming. ohhhh my god. the writers of this movie must double as gymnasts because they were making olympic-worthy leaps to justify and romanticize grooming. wow, a full-grown high school teacher is too immature to commit to his girlfriend and instead falls for his english student! that's so cute! every girl's dream! all the sympathy and relatability josie posessed was sadly lost when she somehow happily became a 25 year old victim of grooming and did absolutely nothing to condemn it, even while others around her did. and then this pedophile went and acted all hurt like the supposed student he was grooming was the one who was hurting him. wonderful message, and truly a great influence for teenage girls watching the film! additionally, i know this is to be expected (to an extent) for a rom-com in 1999, but every single aspect of this movie is so extremely unrealistic and does not make a shred of sense in the real world. this isn't the worst movie ever, but it became literally unwatchable as josie, the predatory teacher, and her brother became insufferable characters. the amount of eyerolls this "movie" caused me was unreal. many better movies in the genre, really disappointed. please don't waste your time like i did!
