A remarkable book about the story of the Roman city of Olisipo, today Lisboa, that has been often underappreciated European capital. Sometimes the narrative is a bitter one although packed with vivid description of the city throughout the centuries. In my view, this is a book that will be read by readers of the Portuguese civilization and scholars for decades.
