Very slow and long. That said, lovely, spare dialogue, quite modern in contrast to the historic time, much of the unusual story is implied, book like, allowing the viewer to draw his/her own conclusions. It begins with the end, then the beginning, middle and back to the end. It touches on but does not belabor issues of class, friendship, slavery, capitalism, culture, economics.
