Where do I even begin? Wow…..just wow wow wow wow! Sonic Frontiers feel like the Second Coming, but for Sonic, and what I mean by that, is the fact that the Sonic we all knew and loved, has returned, and is better than ever.
First of all, the story is very immersive, intriguing, melancholic, and poses a lot of questions, but the game goes out of its way to explain a lot and connect so much lore, it’s just brilliant and such a love letter to fans of previous titles. Storytelling of this level needs to stay and remain consistent, cause we love it, and hopefully Ian Flynn, the GOAT, will stay as the writer going forward.
For the gameplay, Sonic felt super satisfying to control and once you get the hang of his moves and the enemies, you’ll find there’s a lot of fun to be had with the combat. It is flashy, but still way past cool and nothing short of epic for the Legendary Blue Blur. All the Titan Boss Battles were SUPER EPIC, and never before have I experienced a level of hype such as this and I couldn’t be any happier.
As for the Music……Come on, it’s a Sonic game, do y’all even need to ask? Of course the soundtracks were going to pop off, but I didn’t think they would pop off this MUCH. Holy cow! The OST for Frontiers was so awesome, not one single track, at least to me, felt meh at all. All of it was either really great or just Godtier. My favorite soundtracks absolutely have to be the Titan Boss battles and BOI, do they go SOOOO HARD. I missed Super Sonic being this EPIC, and I hope that aspect stays going forward, we need more of it.
My final thoughts on this game are just…..like, I have no words, other than, this game is not perfect by any means, but there’s a lot more good than there are misses and stuff. For me personally, this is THE return to form Peak Sonic we all need and deserve, and I’m a happy Sonic fanboy 🥹 Thank You, SEGA, Ian Flynn, Morio Kishimoto, Takashi Iizuka and everyone else who worked on this masterpiece. It was a beautiful experience and one of the best gaming journeys of my life. 💙
