Backround - Not a LOTR/Fan, I have watched the original movie trilogy
Positives - Special effects, especially the scenic shots are visually stunning. Some of the smaller effects are also very well done and it makes the sweeping shots and pans very beautiful to see.
The relationship between Durin and Elrond is my favorite in the show. I enjoyed their interactions and seeing more of dwarven culture.
Pacing has improved since episodes 1-4.
Negatives - The writing for some characters is poor overall. When it comes to character development it really struggles to make me enjoy Galadriel, Harbrand, or any of the Harfoots.
The world building is shallow and I am just not interested in seeing some protagonists storylines develop. It feels like there are 4 unrelated stories being told at once and the writers can choose to intersect them at will. Distance and scale are thrown away for convenience. There are specifics in the show but I wont get into spoilers.
TLDR: Not a LOTR fan, has issues with the show on a technical level. Probably comparing it to the original trilogy too much.
