Lacked the intensity and build up of the originals. None of the characters, besides Snow, are developed enough for the audience to be effected by their death or challenges. Lucy Gray was built to be rebellious and tough in her reaping, but then cries and breaks before the games even began. She also loses her accent mid sentence, taking you out of the experience completely. The actress can sing, but it felt forced and misplaced, unlike Jennifer Lawrence, who wasn’t a fantastic singer, but only sang twice in the whole trilogy. A prequel that will be forgotten and if the franchise wanted to be memorable, they would make a movie about Haymitch’s games.

Reminded me why paying $21 to see a movie in cinema is a dying breed. Zero urgency, Sam Niel, Laura Dern and Ian Malcolm’s return was lackluster. Poor use of the best dinosaurs that were previously established, and the same plot beaten to death but somehow worst than any of the other movies. Sure, you can have some original characters and change some themes. But as soon as you put ‘gingers are a good shag’ in the script, you’ve lost all respect from anyone in their right mind. It’s giving me 13 reasons why vibes by trying to appeal to a young audience that literally doesn’t exist. ‘I spent my summer high’ sounds like the stoner in a horror movie stereotype lol what is even going on. Don’t ‘try’ to be woke, just make a netflix series. Also, continuing the stereotype that big girls are the outcasts and loners is a bit rich, no?
