I wasn’t expecting this movie to affect me the way it did. It came out of nowhere. I’ve read many comments which criticize and critique the Film.. which isn’t surprising. However, I think it was incredible. Ppl always find a way to disagree, discredit, or dismiss anything that’s controversial. ESP when it comes to films (like this one) involving teenagers and touches on serious topics such as violence, sexuality, traumatic events or emotional/mental health and this film touched a little on all of those topics combined which is bound to trigger reactions. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but I disagree with most of the negative ones. Idt they in any way “sexualized children” in this film. Ppl say it doesn’t portray the depth of a mass shooting experience or grasp the emotions one might feel after experiencing such a trauma and to those ppl I say- I think you missed the point. Idt the film was necessarily trying to depict the specifics of the violent act. It wasn’t meant to be the focus of sex, drugs, sexuality,l or the specific measures Ppl think should be taken in order to prevent something like this from happening. The “lack of depth” pertaining to certain characters wasn’t explored for a reason. It was merely focusing on the aftermath of a couple particular characters and how the shooting affected their particular lives but that’s it. I think The goal was to show the perspective of how these young adults dealt with the aftermath of the tragic events. To show us ppl cope differently, feel differently and heal differently than others and that there’s no right or wrong way to deal with these emotions just as long as you’re trying to deal with them. It shows both the good and the bad that comes from inconceivable acts. How important it is to talk to somebody/anybody and how two unlikely ppl come together to form an unbreakable bond and how the strongest of friendships and most beautiful relationships can come from something so ugly. I think The acting was amazing and their characters were so beautifully flawed which made it all feel so realist! It was filled with such raw emotion yet it was surprisingly easy to digest. It showed the unpredictably of life and the fear that comes with it. Many argue there should’ve been more depth to the characters and topic but take a sec to ask yourself is that really what you want to see? This isn’t and wasn’t that kind of movie. It was powerful & moving & told in a simplified respectful realistic manor that leaves you feeling understandably sad yet surprisingly hopeful. I hope the film gets the credit it deserves as well as everyone involved in bringing the script to life! It was a great movie! Even tho I rambled on too much & this is ultimately my extremely overly complicated opinion & can’t be 100% sure you’ll feel the same. I, HOWEVER AM 100% SURE this film will resonate with a lot of ppl & will help a lot of ppl who were a victim of circumstance. I think it could even change/save lives if taken the way it was supposed to be taken💔❤️🩹❤️
