Very disappointed with this book. Especially after reading all of the glowing reviews it definitely did not live up to the hype.
The main character was supposed to be mature for her age but she kept disproving that with every decision she made throughout the entire book. The love interest was also supposed to be mature for being 21 but the only thing that he did to show that was by the way that he dressed. All of his decisions, that he ended up going back on, was reflective of his actual age and underdevelopment of a of his brain. Both characters only seemed well suited for each other in that their immaturity matched one another’s.
As for the poetry, it was not riveting and emotion provoking like how the other characters in the story reacted to it. There is a lot of good poetry out there that the author could have pulled from but it sounds like it was her first attempt at mimicking it. The only good poetry in the book were the lyrics by the Avett Brothers at the beginning of each chapter. This book turned me off from reading anything else by Colleen Hoover; however, I am now interested in listening to the Avett Brothers more often. Granted I can get the bad taste of this book out of my mouth long enough for me to enjoy their music.
