This was pretty much just an aesthetically pleasing music video with a bunch of cryptic songs. This movie is worth the observation but not thought provoking. When there was dialogue, the acting was really good. There's an honest portrayal of the ideal nuclear family that dwells too much on discipline and pushes one kid too hard until the kid is no longer openly vulnerable with the parents. Said kid would not know how to properly behave in a relationship and to double down, Waves shows how substance abuse escalates a complex situation. I will say this movie was very depressing despite the pretty visuals. I'm sure that juxtaposition was intentional. The only scene that mattered to me was the moment between the father and the daughter. Everything after the tragedy/the climax was nostalgic of summer and wholesome young love which I can appreciate.
