This is a very critical story that needs to be told at this moment in time.
And it's done so incredibly well.
The actors, specifically young Jaimie and the therapist, are all sensational and I think the choice to carry out the series as if it's one travelling shot plays in to the storytelling impeccably.
I think the social narrative is incredibly poignant and so relevant to today's society and struggles. However I felt all of the male characters in this series were explored with nuance and complexities, given time and space to process their anger, frustration, sadness, concealment and love, or lack thereof.
However, although they all performed their parts impeccably, I feel disappointed that their female counterparts weren't given the same Grace. Other than Jade, we don't see any female in the show get angry or display female rage, especially considering that a 13 year old girl was just murdered. Even Jades anger appeared to be shrugged off as teenage angst.
Maybe this was intentional and a devise used to showcase that stereotypically within societal norms men aren't allowed to show weakness and women aren't supposed to show strengthbut the lack of dynamism given to the emotions of the females within this TV series left me feeling personally let down.
I feel if this was explored more I'd have easily given it the 5 stars I wish I could.
