G'day, Good Morning Afternoon Evening whatever the time is over yonder
If you like your post-apocalypse type games - post Nuclear War - post Zombie infestation - Alien invasion?
This game might be for you depending on how one interprets it.
The DayZ Game reminds me a combination of The Walking Dead Series and World War Z movie.
The Game starts with you on the coast of post-Soviet Era country/town/region with only the bare minimal clothing, and almost next to nothing items.
From there you are up against the clock to survive the random environment conditions, the zombies and other players.
Running through small towns to the cities can be challenging. Finding food/drink, weapons/ammunition and useful tools to help you craft useful items (making a fishing rod with hook and worm can do you wonders when you running short on food)
The challenge is find useful items before someone else finds it and kills you for it.
This game has an interesting effect on players - Does it show the inner nature of the player? Go kill everyone and horde everything to yourself. Does it bring out the true nature of the individual?
Well it is a PvP - free for all and there are not rules.
One thing I learnt when I first tried playing this...not every person you meet is nice enough to be polite to let you build up and instead kill you and loot your body even if you had bare minimum gear.
If I use loosely the game from the Fallout Series. If Fallout 76 is a Primary/High School level of post apocalypse game, then DayZ could almost be University Level game play
The down side - There is no safe zone to give players to recover and replenish - but then again this is a PvP game - it is as real as you can get.
You have to rest, recover, replenish, repair while keeping an eye for out anyone who can shoot you from behind.
When your character dies, you have a few options, try to run back when you got killed and recover any of your gear - but it is a good chance that your gear is taken by the person who shot you.
The other issue is that when you respawn there is no assurance you start at a place you are familiar when.
So one has to assume you start fresh at a different location and you have to forage your way til you are gear again.
The minus 2 stars for me
- I wish there was some story/lore content to read. A good game with a good story/lore always gets me to come back for more
- Occasional glitches - seeing a zombie standing on top of a house roof trying to run to you and attack you but it can't because it is stuck
- Safe Zones : I have nothing against the PvP component but it would be nice to have a safe zone for players to recover and repair everything after spending x amount of hours building or repair and then lose everything after being shot after x amount of hours of playing and setting up everything.
- Would have like a End Game objective - It would give me some satisfaction that I finished something.
DayZ is definitely one challenging game if you are up for PvP and avoiding being attack by random Zombies at the least expected locations.
Hopefully you enjoy the game should you get it
