I cannot believe the bad reviews regarding this film! The film was absolutely brilliant, thoughtful and beautiful! Possibly the best film of the year! One of the worst reviews I read by a critic was that this film supposedly did not go into the depths of Mercury’s sexuality, loneliness, identity, and remained conservative... quite the contrary! The film adequately depicts Mercury’s sexuality, loneliness, clash of identities and the challenges associated with all these concepts underlying Mercury’s life choices, losses and triumphs, whilst remaining respectful to some privacy! For any audience who expected greater explicity needed to reflect on the complexities of man kind and that to truly comprehend the extremity of the mind there are going to be ambiguities. This is the human psyche! The film could not have possibly portrayed a more thorough projection of an incredible ‘character.’ There were many subtle camera angles and frames, and body language, that invited the audience to reflect on the depths of Mercury’s sexuality, loneliness and identity... what a cliche film it would have been if everything needed to be spelt out! I want to view a film that will intice me as an audience to reflect on the implied, conveyed meaning rather than tell me all! Not sure what some were expecting to see? The film was an absolute art piece!
