Context and story has no place in Zack Snyder movies. I watched this with a group of friends, and even though we had a hardcore DC fan who explained things to us, most of us were lost. One reason could simply be because DC characters are less known to an average person compared to Marvel characters, but as a cinephile the story and characters had almost zero development throughout the film.
Even though, the movie was 4 hours long, I felt like everything about the characters were rushed.
Also, releasing the movie in square ratio and with the dim grading, and constant soundtrack ringing in my ears, I thought it was very very pretentious at best. The constant soundtrack felt like I was watching a 4 hour long music video. It started to sound like annoying noise within the first 30 minutes. I was literally agitated by the unnecessary technical "interventions" made by Synder.
I'm going as far to say, that I would've rated the 2017 version (Which I watched after I got home), a 5/10 rating, and this is 0.01/10 at max.
If you ever had to make a movie you would know your limitations in terms of production budget, but with a blockbuster budget like Synder had, releasing low level editing, low level script and story telling, low level direction, it's no excuse.
I think I'd enjoy a washed out Adam Sandler or Michael Bay movie more than this piece of nonsense.
Sorry, I'm angry mostly at myself, then at my friends who made me sit through this and much much less angry at Zack Snyder because he simply did the best he could.
