If you didn’t watch The Sopranos TV series, you would likely find this movie to be a “Huh? So what?” mediocre movie. Without the context of The Sopranos, it would be disconnected, seemingly pointless with no character development.
But if you watch it because you yearn for more of the show, you likely will enjoy it. The cast was excellent and everyone has the younger versions of characters you know and love down pat, their portrayals emulating speaking habits and mannerisms perfectly. Vera Farmiga plays Olivia as if she was simply a younger Nancy Marchand.
The tale told in two hours was solid, and with a strong ending.
If you are from NJ, especially Essex County, there is the same allure from the TV show of “Hey, I know where that is!”, or “I’ve eaten there (Hobby’s Delicatessen or Holsten’s).
My sole complaint is it’s a movie not a season!
