Went into this without any knowledge of the "famous marriage" and felt the plot was extremely slow. However, I was still drawn in to Effie and needing to know her outcome, which to my surprise was so brave for the Era! In my opinion it was a necessary harsh reveal into the true stories of what I'm sure many woman faced as their fates.
