I have wanted to see this for years and finally, recently, did. The male figures, although not always the best role models, are what every shy or otherwise boy needs in his life.
My grandfathers were of the WWII generation; one was a lumberjack in the Maine woods and the other a deputy sheriff and B-24 bomber pilot in the war. Both were tough men who showed their love for me by means other than hugs or pats on the back. They took me fishing in remote places. They showed me what they did for a living and where.
Personally, I believed Hub and Garth the entire time, being their backgrounds. I loved the fight scene and held-by-the-throat speech Hub gave the one boy! They don't make men like that anymore!
I didn't want it to end.
It was men like this who made this shy kid vow to himself to not lead a boring life, and to experience adventures. And boy, have I ever.
