I'm really trying to see the relevance of the changes in this adaptation. I hated it from the off but told myself it's a reimagining not a faithful representation and have persevered. However, I cannot see how making Pip crude, aggressive and with ideas 'above his station' from the off; Joe sarcastic and knowing; and his sister an unwilling harridan to Pip but have a masochistic relationship with Uncle Pumblechook adds anything to the morality or entertainment of Dickens complex, nuanced, hilarious novel.
