This is what happens when you try to think " Why Avatar 1 was a hit " and you end up with a wrong answer i.e. "VFX" ... I mean, really man this wasn't the reason at all. Whenever you watch Avatar 1 you're gonna enjoy, because of the Great "Story" but now in Avatar 2, the story is like a "Web series." Even without a Memorable character sketch. I felt, something is missing all the time and I kept waiting for it. But it never came. The VFX was damn great. And the actors did what James Cameron wanted them to do. But....The movie has Nothing to charge you up. Nothing to cheer Whoaaa.... Nothing to Say that this is the most expensive movie and it is a sequel to the one of the best movie ever made.
