This might sound strange, but I have loved these books since I was old enough to read them. This was before the series came out. I never much liked the film as although I love Nicole Kidman I feel that she didn’t connect to the role as well as I expected (I probably did have high standards seeing as Marisa Coulter is my all time favourite character). When they announced they were making a series, I was sceptical but I knew that inevitably I would watch it. I fell in love with the the character Mrs Coulter through Ruth Wilson’s detailed and layered portrayal which shows the character as not just a typical villain but as a character with other feelings and emotions too. This really added to the character development. I was aware of Wilson’s work because of The Affair and Luther and knew how much of an amazing actress she was and ultimately I knew she wouldn’t disappoint. I also loved how the series approached their adaption from a realistic perspective on the contrary to the film’s whimsical fantasy take. In addition I feel each role was casted impeccably with every actor playing their character phenomenally especially young actor’s Dafne Keen and Amir Wilson being able to take on their characters seriously and perfectly. Lastly, The special affect I feel were impeccable with the dæmons and Armoured bears being much more believable than the movie. Although this adaption ventured from Pullman’s writings sometimes, I found myself captivated and preferring some of these changes.
I cannot wait for series 3 x
