Three Quarters of a very good movie. But I agree 100% that M. Knight is more concerned with his twists than he is about his characters. There are some great filmmakers who also do this: Tarantino comes to mind. What results is movies with great scenes but not always great movies.
This felt like him trying to set up his own “Universe” (One character even says essentially that in the train station climax) but at the expense of what he got us to care about in the previous two films.
I felt, walking out of this film, the same way I fel walking out of The Village, the first time I saw it. I thoroughly enjoyed the first 3/4 and felt the writer/ director destroy all he gave us for the sake of trying to surprise us. He cheapens his own work by trying to be cute.
Next time, he should focus on just giving us a good story and great characters. When he does that, we get good films out it. It’s not that complicated.
The first 3/4 of the movie: 9 out of 10
The last 1/4: 2/10
