This film should be telecasted on every college and university campus. On every national TV channel. On every national, state and international women's day or an event.
The movie "Pink," starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu, is a powerful critique of patriarchy. It challenges everyday ideologies about women, exposing how, in a typical patrilineal society, women are categorized, branded, and itemized by the normative male gaze. Women's moral character is judged based on superficial criteria such as the color and shape of their clothes, the pitch of their smile, the movement of their lips, and the amount they drink.
The film effectively uses meaningful dialogues to showcase the entrenched misogyny in our mentality. Three male friends sexually humiliate three female friends, believing that the women's choice to have a drink with them grants them a license to devour their bodies. The film also subtly depicts how boys are influenced by these ideologies, becoming horrid perpetrators of misogyny themselves.
"Pink" also features a gripping courtroom drama in which Amitabh Bachchan's character represents the voice of reason and justice, echoing the sentiment that "no means no" when a woman says so.
